composed from a single sample of a violin tuning up.
again, this original recording was for an entirely different purpose (an animation soundtrack). this time i used the sample as raw material to further experiment with the ASR10 on board effects processing, specifically auto-panning. so i set the beat by swinging the sample from side to side and the chords and melody just came intuitively and instantly - although the six bar duration of each step in the melody was a deliberate attempt to avoid multiples of four. i applied multiple passes of performed EQ manipulation, undoubtedly thinking this was going to become my signature process. but the really special part of this piece for me is the heavy compression (so heavy it would normally be considered overdone) which creates a pumping, slippery effect.
